CAMBRIDGE, OH — As the United States gears up for its monumental 250th anniversary, courthouses across Ohio are taking center stage in the celebrations—and Guernsey County has been right in the mix!
The Supreme Court of Ohio is currently shining a spotlight on the creative ways local justice centers are honoring the nation's semiquincentennial. From historical scavenger hunts to patriotic tree plantings, the state's 88 counties are finding unique ways to bring history to life right on their courthouse lawns.
Guernsey County Lights the Way Locals who strolled through downtown Cambridge recently were treated to a spectacular display. Leading up to and through the Fourth of July, the historic Guernsey County Courthouse was beautifully illuminated with a special America 250 light show, casting a patriotic glow over the heart of our community.
Celebrations Across the Buckeye State While our local light show has wrapped up, the statewide festivities are still in full swing. If you are traveling around Ohio this summer, here are a few other county courthouse celebrations to look out for:

Licking County: Just a short drive west, Licking County recently planted a white oak tree on their courthouse grounds. This is part of America 250-Ohio’s ambitious goal to plant a white oak in all 88 counties. Visitors are encouraged to stop by, take a selfie with the budding tree, and check out the newly renovated courthouse.

Highland County: Heading southwest next weekend? Highland County is hosting a massive celebration on Friday, July 17, and Saturday, July 18. The weekend will feature theatrical performances, Pioneer Day exhibits, courthouse tours, and a grand finale concert on the lawn.

Summit County: Up north, the Domestic Relations Court is running an interactive “Law or Legend? A Judicial Scavenger Hunt.” Participants can explore historic landmarks and complete "missions" both in-person and virtually to learn about the county's rich history. They are also hosting a community Open House with local judges on August 6.

Lake & Adams Counties: Other regions are honoring the past with everything from Revolutionary War Patriot markers dedicated to local heroes, to community picnics and live entertainment.
Help Shape the Celebration To keep the momentum going, the Supreme Court of Ohio is actively gathering insights into how local courts are marking this historic milestone. They are currently conducting a statewide survey to collect event ideas and feedback, hoping to support local initiatives and amplify these community successes as we get closer to the big 250th anniversary.
