The morning air carried that crisp, refreshing promise of a brand-new day as I pulled into park at Farmhouse Kitchen & Bakery. Stepping through the doors, any lingering morning grogginess melted away instantly, replaced by a wave of pure, comforting warmth. The restaurant radiated a cozy, welcoming charm, humming softly with the gentle chatter of early risers and the aroma of coffee and food.
Sitting down, I settled in for what turned out to be a delicious breakfast. The server who greeted me was an absolute delight—patient, attentive, and carrying that rare, lovely professional grace that instantly makes you feel like a valued regular, even on a first visit. When my order arrived, it was nothing short of yummy: the signature Farmhouse Hash, a steaming, savory bowl of golden hashbrowns, farm-fresh eggs, colorful peppers, sweet onions, creamy avocado, and melted cheese (expertly prepared vegetarian style without the bacon for me). Paired with a steaming, perfectly spiced Chai Tea Latte with oat milk, it was pure, cozy comfort in every single bite.

With a happy stomach and a lifted spirit, I headed over to the bakery counter before leaving, completely captivated by the row of enormous, freshly baked cookies sitting in the display case. I had grand visions of taking a generous box home to share with loved ones, but peering into the glass, I realized there weren't quite enough chocolate chip cookies left to go around.
Not wanting to give up so easily, I smiled at the server and asked the all-important question: Do you happen to have any more in the back?
Without missing a beat, she disappeared into the kitchen and emerged a moment later carrying a fresh box containing a half-dozen freshly baked this morning, irresistible cookies. I have a sneaky, heartwarming gut feeling those particular cookies weren't actually meant for the display case that day, but with a kind smile, they happily sold them to me anyway. (And let me tell you: they were absolute perfection.)

Just as I was getting ready to head out the door, the morning took a truly magical, storybook turn. A gentleman sitting in a nearby booth stood up to leave— I did a double take. It wasn't just any regular customer. It was Santa!

It turns out this wonderful man is William Stellar from West Alexander, Pennsylvania. With a twinkle in his eye and a spirit of pure giving, William has dedicated an incredible 41 years of his life to bringing joy as Santa, visiting children's hospitals, personal care homes, churches, and parades. True to character, he carries a pocketful of golden dollar coins, quietly passing them out to children as a special, treasured keepsake.

As we chatted with him, another local customer at a nearby table overheard our conversation and smiled warmly, chiming in to share that her own family has cherished pictures with him hanging right in their home.
Meeting him felt like a little reminder of all the goodness and magic hiding in everyday moments. It was the kind of morning that stays with you all day long—good food, kind people, warm cookies, and a little unexpected holiday cheer in the middle of autumn.
(If you ever want to catch the magic yourself, William's next public appearance is scheduled for Saturday, November 21, 2026, at Curtis Pharmacy located at 305 Main Street in Claysville, PA!)
